This course aims at providing historical and critical tools for the understanding of the construction and integration processes of the European Union and its successive enlargements from the 1970's to the fall of communism. It studies the basic structure and the institutions of the EU today and its decision and policy making processes. Central to the course will be the issue of the EU in front of current and future challenges in a globalized world, for example: economic and financial crisis, global power balance and world influence, next steps in economic and political integration.

Target group

he UPF Barcelona Summer School has been carefully designed to fulfil the expectations of students who are in good academic standing, have a minimum level of proficiency in Spanish and a pre-existing interest in Spanish culture, and want to earn university credits in an intensive six-week period.
The programme is also open to all UPF undergraduate students who want to use the summer term to make progress in their studies by taking elective credits from their degree courses.
