This course has two main objectives. First, it aims to familiarize the students with the historical
background, institutions, actors, processes, ideologies that have shaped Turkish political
structure. Thus, the students will be provided with the theoretical background and analytical
tools to assess Turkish political development. Second, the course focuses on a set of contested
issues including political Islam, Kurdish nationalism, Turkey’s candidacy for EU membership,
and constitutional change that dominate the political scene in contemporary Turkey.

EUR 600: The course fee includes the following:

Registration
The tuition for the two weeks course. Within the two week period, students can attend only one course
Use of all venue facilities (e.g. computer lab, TV room, etc.)
Handouts, scripts and other relevant teaching material
Accommodation and half board for the two weeks. Students are accommodated in double rooms. The meals breakfast, lunch and two dinners are included.
