Bank Financial Management and Risk Modelling
This summer, deepen your financial intellect with an insightful understanding of the world of banking and risk management, while acquiring a solid grip on the current effects our financial crisis continues to cause. During this course, you touch upon the deeper causes of the crisis by answering the question: ‘how is risk managed?’
The course uses a very effective combination of lectures and hands-on simulations including Monte-Carlo risk modelling in Excel and a comprehensive banking simulation developed in close collaboration with the banking community. You will learn to build basic risk and optimization models while getting a deep understanding of the conceptual issues and practical dilemmas faced by banks in the current market environment.
This course will present an inviting cocktail of lectures, team work, challenging readings, class discussions, and expert Excel modelling. It will take an outsider’s look on the financial industry and while at times sidestepping into history, philosophy, mathematics, and politics.
Student teams will manage a virtual bank in the Mercursim bank simulation environment, which was developed for ING bank to train their credit risk managers. Doing so will assure all participants of hands-on experience in the banking world.
