The program lectures cover general terms of power systems; basic concept of power system stability, electrical 3-phase system. Fundamental terms of short-circuit currents calculations are introduced. Temporary and surge overvoltages, reactive power compensation means and high voltage cable lines application issues are also considered. Additionally, the course focuses on load flow analysis methods, synchronous machines’ excitation systems and automatic voltage regulators principles of operation and root causes of power system blackouts. Special attention will be paid to the topic Grid Integration of Renewable Energies and e-Mobility. Active teamwork in small groups on projects of the course will bring deeper understanding of the subject.
Students attending the School will have the opportunity of visiting the energy companies in St. Petersburg.
Lectures will be held in English in the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University from January 22 2018 to February 2 2018. At the end of the School participants will receive a certificate of attendance and 5 ECTS credits. All studies are developed accordingly to the European requirements and can be recognized as a period abroad.

Participants will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the winter school and all necessary documentation to validate the course at their home university.
EUR 600: The course fees include all lectures, practical section, course material, company visits and cultural program. Tuition fee is fixed in rubles (40 000 RUB) and in EUR depends on a currency exchange rate and can vary.
The cultural program includes:
- Excursion to the Hermitage, one of the world’s largest and oldest museums of fine art;
- Sightseeing tour of St. Petersburg;
- Russian language & culture class;
- Farewell party.
