The CIES consists of two complementing parts. The first part contains lectures by Prof. Richard Green (Imperial College London, UK, on "Electricity Markets of the Future") and Prof. Werner Antweiler (University of British Columbia, Canada, on "Investment in Electricity Generation and Transmission; Renewable Energy Finance and Markets"). In the second part participants will be presenting their own work and receive feedback from the lecturers and senior researchers.

Target group

Applicants must be seeking a Ph.D. degree or in advanced stage of his/her Master studies, and have conducted independent research. All students in the fields of energy economics, industrial organization and public economics with strong interest in energy and environmental issues are encouraged to apply.

Course aim

The Cologne International Energy Summer (CIES) aims at bringing together distinguished scholars and young researchers in the field of energy and environmental economics to discuss research advances and relevant policy issues. The CIES is a Summer School with emphasis on scientific interaction and exchange of thoughts. In particular, it provides a platform for graduate students to present and discuss their work with senior researchers and other graduate students. Young researchers are given the opportunity to develop a network and are exposed to current issues in their research field.

Scholarships

The registration is free of charge. A limited number of grants covering travel expenditures up to € 500 are available. Please indicate in your application whether you wish to apply for the travel grant.
